Kincaid Park Tuesday May 10 by ipickupmydogspoo

A reminder to folks that traditionally Kincaid is not open to bikes until June 1st. The giant ruts that a few selfish bikers have put into recently melted out ski trails is a reminder. Some sections of some trails are dry but all trails still have long soaking wet sections that are not ready for traffic. Soccer fields are dry.

Skiing last night on the snowmaking loop was a blast! I was inspired by the late season skiing but even more so watching the next generation of skiers launching deep water gaps mid stride.
Pure joy.
Thanks NSAA! What a community you support!

Kincaid Park: The SML skate lanes have been refreshed and Craig was able to groom a continuous skiable loop off of the SML by taking Elliot’s to World Cup and down Margaux’s Roller Coaster. He said it might not last longer than Monday though. The Multi-Use is still a work in progress as Eric scrapes and blades the snow away. Have a wonderful day!

Hillside: This is it, the last groom of the season on the Hillside. Jack scuffed the Spencer and set track on the Gasline. Have a great summer and we’ll see you on the trails!

Kincaid Park Wednesday Apr 20 by Heidi

Recently groomed trails were a mix of good corduroy with icy and dirty patches. The snow-making loop and stadium were very nice; Jodhpur, Little Niagara, and Roller Coaster were ok. Margaux's required two portages where the trail was down to dirt/grass: Burkey's climb on the north side and the downhill to the upper tunnel on the south side of the road. Mize requires a pack raft or an interest in swimming where the swamp has flooded the trail at the bottom of the first downhill; I had neither, so I turned around.

Kincaid Park: Craig groomed the SML, first half of the Mize, Margaux’s, Jodhpur, Arlene’s, Sisson and the Football. He said there’s only a narrow strip of snow left on Margaux’s bridge. The pickings are getting slim out there! Have a great day!

Hillside: Jack did some work on the Gasline and renovated the base and set new track. He also covered several dirt spots on the Spencer and mentioned the base is sounding hollow and there are icy spots here and there. Enjoy!

Sunshine skate of the Jodphur Loop! Twice! A month after the Equinox. A bit of ice, a bit of dirt, and only a couple of spots so narrow I had to double pole past. About 3 hours after the temperature rose above freezing after the hard freeze last night led to a bit of corn atop a solid base. Many thanks to the groomers for the spring skiing!

Kincaid Park: The Horseshoe Loop has been groomed and only a tiny portion of the Lake and Multi-Use were groomed before the snowcat had some mechanical issues and had to head back to the Bunker. The first half of the Mize, Margaux’s, Jodhpur and a loop in the Stadium have all been scarfed up. Enjoy!

Hillside: Surprisingly the Spencer is still holding up except for some dirt spots near the end and some icy hills. Spencer and Gasline have been groomed with track. Have a great day!

Conditions on Margeaux and the first part of Mize were as good as they have been for the last couple of weeks. Very edgable, a bit icy in spots, but the siesta senior Sun took this morning has spared the trail and resulted in a peppy sprint.

Skate skied Arlenes and full Sisson. Nice spring conditions, soft but not slushy, a few icy areas could be mostly avoided. Little wind except stadium. Saw no other skiers on sisson, one on Arlenes on the return portion.
Won't last mush longer.

Be careful driving in the stadium parking lot. There is an area near the lower entrance (across from the road access to the biathlon range) where the slush is deceptively deep. When I arrived around 2pm there was a car being towed out. An hour later I helped pull out another car.

Question: I see the night time temperatures in Anchorage are going to stay above freezing this coming week. Wondering what that means for grooming Nordic ski trails in town. If air temp is warm but snow temp still at freezing can and will grooming still occur? I am not ready to put my skis away for the season!

Kincaid Park Saturday Mar 26 by ipickupmydogspoo

Jen J & Tim, don't worry too much about the future "will they won't they groom" and get out while it's good. At some point soon it will be over, yes. They keep grooming as long as possible, surprisingly long sometimes. The groomed trails were excellent skating yesterday, everytime NSAA grooms Arlenes/ Sisson surely an angel gets it's wings or people get an NSAA membership.

Grooming Reports

In pursuit of our mission to provide a state-wide platform for all trail conditions, and to support the grooming efforts of the clubs that make those trails possible, we are excited to now include automated grooming reports provided by the Municipality of Anchorage's (MOA) Nordic Grooming Map.

When MOA, NSAA, or Girdwood NSC update the grooming status on the MOA Map, it is automatically displayed here as well, thanks to our "Friendly Trail Bot". Each new grooming update is displayed as a text report, similar to our usual user reports, including the names of the trails groomed as well as any groomer comments. The groomed trails are also displayed on the map, color-coded based on how long ago they were groomed.

This is a new feature, and we'd love to get your feedback on how we can improve it. Please send me an email: cory@snowio.com And, of course, we still want to see all of your first-hand reports posted here as well!

Thank you to the Municipality of Anchorage, Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, and Girdwood Nordic Ski Club for making this possible! Please support these clubs' grooming efforts!

If you'd like to get your local club's grooming updates on this site (automated or otherwise), please get in touch. We'd love to make it happen!
